The thINCubator, located at 106 Genesee Street in historical Baggs Square West in downtown Utica N, is a centrally located business accelerator/incubator so that it may serve the community as well as the many institutions of higher education in the Mohawk Valley. Initially funded and led by the Mohawk Valley Community College foundation, its purpose is to drive innovation and entrepreneurship in collaboration with other educational institutions, existing entrepreneurs, support organizations, government agencies and the community. Liddy Enterprises was contracted to conceptualize and initiate the incubator and John Liddy currently serves as the director. The thINCubator has been in development for 12 months and launched in January of 2014.
While the emphasis of the thINCubator is students, the accelerator is open to non-student teams in an effort to collaborate and best utilize the talents of the community. For those ventures provided residency within the accelerator, a team of mentors are provided for support. The framework for developing ventures is broken into three units with a series of four sessions. Each program lasts approximately 2 hours and will include workshops, lectures, visiting entrepreneurs, subject matter experts and peer-to-peer feedback.
